Press Release Regarding the Claims in Some Foreign Media Outlets that “Turkey’s e-Visa Application Facilitates Illegal Migration to Europe”
No: 229, 11 August 2015
We observe that there are some groundless claims in some foreign media outlets asserting that Turkey’s e-Visa application system facilitates illegal migration to Europe.
The e-Visa system developed by Turkey, which is an important tourism country, as an application method especially for tourists and businessmen, has been functioning properly since April 2013.
E-Visa can only be used for touristic and business purposes. In e-Visa applications made from the source countries of illegal migration, valid Schengen/OECD visa or residence permits are also required along with other conditions. In addition, all necessary measures are taken by related institutions for the security of the system, and strict controls are conducted during entry into the country. So far, no problem of illegal stay of people coming to Turkey by receiving e-Visa in the country has been encountered.
Moreover, Turkey continues its determined fight against illegal migration.
